The BMW Boxer cylinders are exposed; stone impacts, a fall off-road or scraping along plastered walls while manoeuvring in tight spaces can scratch the valve cover. In addition, on the 1250 engines with ShiftCam the ShiftCam mechanism is built with exceptional precision, and the valve cover is mounted by means of tension resistance, so there is a risk that the valve cover shifts relative to the cylinder head when a lot of force is applied, which under certain circumstances affects the valve timing system. That makes extra protection of the valve cover particularly important. For this Wunderlich has developed a range of advanced protectors, which stand out because they follow the contour of the valve cover exactly with very little clearance, which in turn demands precise manufacturing. The protector is made from tough, impact-resistant plastic. On the inside, facing the valve cover, we have integrated segments made from an elastic, high temperature resistant material. These segments are sized so that they absorb impacts according to their Shore hardness*). When external forces act on the protector, their protective and supporting effect ensures that these forces are absorbed and distributed evenly by the segments, avoiding force peaks. Both the high-quality design and the function of the protectors are completed by an integrated stainless steel insert, which in the event of a fall prevents the valve cover from shifting, which would lead to oil loss. In this way the protectors help prevent secondary damage and in many cases allow you to ride on without restrictions after an accident. Note: Wunderlich cylinder and valve cover protectors only fit standard BMW valve covers. Not compatible with the standard BMW Motorrad crash bars/engine protection.
