Later this year we'll be leaving our current Motorplaza location. We're moving to Drachten and opening the doors there under our new name: FME Moto.

The move
When are you moving?
Our move starts on Monday 23 November. Saturday 21 November is the last day our Groningen branch is open.
From 23 to 30 November the whole team is moving, so our Groningen branch is closed during this period. Our Menaam branch stays open as usual.
What is the new address?
After the move you will find FME MOTO at our new address in Drachten:

When does the new location open?
We expect the workshop, parts counter and webshop to be fully running from Drachten from the second week of January.
During that period the showroom will be fitted out, followed by the clothing department. Meanwhile we are still finishing the new building.
The official opening is planned for the second weekend of March. The final announcement will follow.
What happens in the meantime?
During the transition some of our mechanics work from Menaam. Among other things they take care of winter services, preparing motorcycles for winter storage, and maintenance and repairs on government motorcycles.
Sales of new motorcycles continue on a smaller scale from Menaam for the time being. Our used motorcycles are stored in Drachten. Viewings and test rides are possible by appointment from Menaam during this period.
What happens to the Groningen building?
Since the takeover we rented the building in Groningen. From 1 December it has a new owner. We do not know what the building will be used for.
Workshop, sales and test rides
Can I still come in for maintenance or repairs during the move?
Yes, from 23 November you can come to Menaam for maintenance and repairs. Some of our BMW mechanics will be working from this branch.
Please request maintenance in advance via the form on our website. You can also do this easily through your own account.

During the transition, viewings and test rides are possible by appointment in Menaam. From January these appointments will take place in Drachten wherever possible.

Curious about our new location? You're welcome to take a look from the second week of January. Please keep in mind that we will still be finishing and fitting out the building at that time.
We expect to celebrate the official opening in the second weekend of March. More information will follow.
Winter storage and winter service
What about winter storage and winter services?
Winter storage and winter services continue as usual, including our free pick-up and delivery service.
Depending on the schedule, your motorcycle will be stored at our Menaam branch or in the new building in Drachten.

Can I order from the webshop during the move?
Of course! Our webshop stays open throughout the move. Please note that delivery of your order may take a little longer.

Can I return a parcel during the move?
Yes, returns are still possible. From 20 November please send returns to our Menaam branch:

Can I still order from the parts counter by email or phone?
Yes, the parts counter can still be reached via our usual phone number and at magazijn@fmemoto.com.
Please note that delivery times may be slightly longer from 20 November.
Can I buy clothing and accessories during the move?
Sales of motorcycle clothing are temporarily paused during the move. Accessories and parts can still be bought in Menaam during this period.
As soon as the clothing department in Drachten opens, we will let you know.
Our Menaam branch
I'm a customer in Menaam. What changes for me?
From 23 November part of the Groningen team will temporarily work from Menaam, so it may be a bit busier at the branch.
Thanks to the extra staff we can keep helping you just as you're used to. We're doing everything we can to make the transition as smooth as possible. It will certainly be a cosy time!
When does the Menaam branch close?
Thursday 24 December is the last regular working day in Menaam. From 1 January this branch is officially closed.
From then on everything comes together at our new location in Drachten.

A new name, a new location, the same passion for motorcycling and BMW Motorrad.
Following the acquisition of Motorplaza by Friese Motorexperts, it's time for the next step. Motorplaza, a familiar name in the motorcycle world, is winding down. But where one door closes, another opens. In Drachten we're building a larger showroom, a more modern workshop and a meeting place for everyone who loves riding. The people, the craftsmanship and the service stay the same. Only the building and the name will change. We also remain the only BMW Motorrad dealer in the north, only better!

After years working in the motorcycle world, Hendrik-Jan launches his sole proprietorship HJ Motoren. Small at the time, but always with quality in mind.

HJ Motoren becomes Friese Motorexperts
Almost five years in, the next step is taken: HJ Motoren moves into a new building in Menaam, where Hendrik-Jan launches Friese Motorexperts as a Kawasaki dealer.

Janke, Hendrik-Jan's wife, joins the company. They met through a shared passion for riding, and they take on this next motorcycle adventure together too.

Motorplaza acquired by Friese Motorexperts
Hendrik-Jan and Janke of Friese Motorexperts Menaam acquire Motorplaza Groningen. They bring along the hospitality, team spirit and drive to grow. The first plans for a move to Drachten are shared.

We unveil the new name: from 2027 we will become FME Moto. FME stands for Full Motor Experience, because we want to offer everything that makes your motorcycle heart beat faster. We're building the ultimate motorcycle experience.

Fmemoto.com goes live! After weeks of building, testing and refining, the first phase of our website is up, with smart features like a personal customer portal, real-time maintenance status and automatic route uploads for the best tour rides. Everything to make life as a rider easier and more fun.

Construction of the new building begins
Construction of our new home is underway! A real milestone on our #RoadtoDrachten. During the BBQ rides on 4 & 5 July, participants were the first to see the design of the new building, on location in Drachten! At that very moment, the finishing touches were still being put to the groundwork.

The first pile goes into the ground
On 3 August the first pile of our new motorcycle experience centre in Drachten is driven into the ground, watched by friends, family, partners, BMW Motorrad representatives and, of course, the whole FME Moto team.

Foundation & steel structure
On 3 September, exactly one month after the first pile, the foundation is poured and the base of FME Moto Drachten is tied together! Once the concrete has cured, the first parts of the steel structure go up on Saturday 19 September. A little over a week later the entire steel structure is standing and the fire walls on the inside are in place.

Moving forward together
On Sunday evening 4 October we share big news: FME Moto and Friese Motorexperts are joining forces in Drachten. This means closing the Menaam branch and the end of the official Kawasaki dealership. A Kawasaki contract partnership can continue, so we can keep offering Kawasaki customers from Menaam the same service and quality.

Next level
With the steel structure in place, the hollow-core slabs for the upper floor are laid, giving a good first look at where the used bikes and clothing departments will be! A few days later the roof panels are on and most wall panels are up, so we stayed dry during the #RoadToDrachten pea soup ride. In the week after the ride the roof is fully closed and the true size of the building becomes clear!

The big move
After almost 20 years as Motorplaza at Kieler Bocht 57, our move to Drachten starts on 23 November. The whole team puts its shoulders to the wheel, and after a week of moving we close the door of the empty building behind us on 30 November. Saturday 21 November is the last day Motorplaza Groningen is open.

The end of an era
After almost 15 years in Menaam, 10 of them in the current building, Friese Motorexperts closes its doors in Menaam to continue even stronger together in Drachten! We take great memories, good stories and a lot of gratitude with us to the new location.

In the second week of January our workshop, warehouse and webshop are already running from Drachten. Meanwhile the showroom is being fitted out and we create the place where you will soon pick up your new riding outfit! From then on we dot every i for your ultimate motorcycle experience.
